National Certificate (Vocational) - Primary Agriculture

Develop essential skills for a career in the agricultural sector

Overview

The NC(V) Primary Agriculture program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in the agricultural sector. This qualification covers both crop and animal production, as well as farm planning and mechanization.

Students will gain practical experience in various agricultural activities, preparing them for employment in the agricultural industry or for further studies in agriculture-related fields.

Minimum Entry Requirements

For entry to the NC(V) Primary Agriculture program, you require one of the following:

  • Year-end school report for Grade 9-12
  • NQF Level 1 qualification
  • An approved bridging program designed for the specific purpose to access NQF Level 2
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment to meet the basic requirements for access to NQF Level 2

Duration

It is a full year program at each NQF level (Level 2, 3, and 4). Students who successfully complete all three levels will be awarded the National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF Level 4.

Upon successful completion of the NC(V) Level 4 qualification, students can pursue further studies in Agriculture, Agricultural Management, or related fields at universities, universities of technology, or other higher education institutions.

Practical Training

The program includes practical training components where students gain hands-on experience in:

  • Crop cultivation and management
  • Livestock handling and care
  • Soil preparation and management
  • Farm equipment operation and maintenance
  • Agricultural business operations

These practical sessions are conducted at the college's agricultural facilities and through partnerships with local farms and agricultural businesses.
