National Certificate (Vocational) - Engineering and Related Design

Develop essential skills for a career in mechanical engineering and related design fields

Overview

The NC(V) Engineering and Related Design program provides both theory and practical experience in the field of mechanical engineering. This qualification equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for various careers in the engineering industry, with a focus on mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering design.

Minimum Entry Requirements

For entry to the NC(V) Engineering and Related Design program, you require one of the following:

  • Year-end school report for Grade 9-12
  • NQF Level 1 qualification
  • An approved bridging program designed for the specific purpose to access NQF Level 2
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment to meet the basic requirements for access to NQF Level 2

Duration

It is a full year program at each NQF level (Level 2, 3, and 4). Students who successfully complete all three levels will be awarded the National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF Level 4.

Upon successful completion of the NC(V) Level 4 qualification, students can pursue further studies in Mechanical Engineering or related fields at universities, universities of technology, or other higher education institutions.

Practical Training

The program includes practical training components where students gain hands-on experience in:

  • Engineering drawing and design
  • Fabrication techniques
  • Material testing and analysis
  • Machine operation and maintenance
  • Quality control procedures
  • Computer-aided design (CAD)

These practical sessions are conducted in well-equipped workshops and laboratories at the college, providing students with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations.
